It was the shoes that did it...
I realize that you’re not supposed to base a major life decision on something as inconsequential as footwear, but these weren’t just any old shoes. These were my Jimmy Choo polka dot sling back sandals. As a starving college student I couldn’t afford to pay retail so I surfed eBay and scored a pair for less than half the original price. Even so, they represented a major indulgence for me; I saved my tip money for two solid months to pay for those suckers.
And then Johnnie ruined them and threw them out.
Maybe I should be grateful on some level that Johnnie did what he did, but I haven’t managed to evolve to that point yet. I’ve done a lot of healing and a lot of growing, as my shrink used to say, but I’m still royally pissed at Johnnie about those sandals.
So pissed that sometimes I forget to feel bad about killing him.

When I found out about this book, I couldn't wait to add it to my library. There's nothing better than to curl up with a good book that you just don't want to put down. And this was definitely one of those : Unfortunately for me, I had to read it on my laptop, and hence, couldn't snuggle up under the blanket. And it did take me a couple of days longer than I wanted.The entire time I was reading I felt like I knew the characters, locations, etc. Once in a great while there would be a twist, but you would figure it out pretty quickly. In the end, I wanted more, and maybe it was written that way to leave an opening for a sequel for any of the characters.
Worth way more than the money.

Let me start by saying that I tend to go for the engaging but relatively easy read Janet Evanovich, Sue Grafton, John Grisham--page turners that engross me. Ms. Masone's work is definitely engrossing--I couldn't put it down. But it's not the kind of book I'm used to. There's more of an emotional ride here, and I found myself cheering for Casey and wanting to protect Cooper. While I agree with the other reviewer that there could be a bit more detail in places, I found that I learned enough about the characters to understand them and their actions and enough to form a definite opinion of them. Casey presents us with a strong, educated woman who has weaknesses and makes some unfortunate choices. How she handles the fallout that eventually ensues reflects what most parents would want to do to protect their children. And all of the emotional baggage that results from our choices in life.
I'd read another Masone book in a heartbeat--I've already reread this one. How about another?
I'd been in a reading slump and needed something to read that would keep my interest. A friend suggested 'Keeping Cooper' and once I started reading I couldn't put it down. Samantha Masone definitely knows how to keep the reader's attention. I loved the characters, suspense and twist at the end. I look forward to reading more books by Ms. Masone.
I bought Keeping Cooper a couple of nights ago and it took me just a couple of nights to read. The pluses here are it is an easy story to get into and keep reading. I just put down The Magificent Journey by David McCollugh which just got too tedious to continue. This book was nothing like that. It's fast moving and I liked it's conversational style. I also really liked the way it let you know who was doing the thinking. Chapters would be headed "Casey" or "Johnny" so you would know right away whose point of view was being represented. The context would eventually allow you to figure it out, but it is nice knowing from the outset.
My personal preference however would be for more details that would more completely immerse me in the scene. Descriptions were sparse.
Would I read another Masone book? Sure. Two nights and two bucks? Nothing wrong with that deal.
